While extreme protestors continue continue to harass and threaten school boards, schools, and school aged kids themselves in an effort to protect rights that don't actually exist under our Constitution, Florida's Governor and legislature are actively taking away actual constitutional rights while all of the same protestors stand silent. The ACLU was in court this week challenging Florida's unconstitutional anti-protest law which seeks to dismantle an actual constitutional right, freedom of assembly, expressly guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights. It is ironic that people have so much venom over minor inconveniences while at the same time are completely apathetic when government is actively and openly working to take away real constitutional rights. The anti-assembly law passed by the governor and legislature allows police to arrest and charge otherwise peaceful protestors if any alleged violence breaks out. This law is a thinly veiled attempt to curtail peaceful protestors and to allow law enforcement to selectively choose and enforce constitutional protections while also allowing known extremist groups to harass peaceful protestors. It is a sad day when people get the full extent of their civic knowledge from Facebook and television news while also allowing their politics to dictate every decision in their lives. If this law is not deemed unconstitutional it will only be a matter of time before the people that support this authoritarian law are arrested for violating it when they feel the need to protest something they care about, such as mask mandates. That is how it always works in the end.
